How Low-Emission Aluminum Is Made?

Aluminum in OX PRO Roof Racks

When designing the OX PRO Roof Rack, we knew from the very beginning that the material would be the key factor. A Roof Rack must be strong, resistant to harsh off-road conditions, and at the same time as lightweight as possible. That is why aluminum became the foundation - but not just any aluminum. It is low-emission aluminum, produced with respect for the environment.

How Low-Emission Aluminum Is Made

Low-emission aluminum is produced thanks to full control over every stage of manufacturing and the use of the cleanest possible energy sources. Production takes place in Norway, in a facility powered 100% by renewable hydropower. This allows aluminum to be smelted using renewable energy, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions - to less than one quarter of the global average CO₂ emission per kilogram of metal.

The entire production process is carefully monitored at every stage - from raw material extraction to casting. Raw bauxite is first refined into alumina, and then during electrolysis, aluminum settles at the bottom of the electrolysis cells, forming pure metal. The material is then cast into various forms such as extrusion billets, casting alloys, sheet ingots, and wire rods.

At the Karmøy plant in western Norway, fully powered by clean energy from nearby hydropower stations, the process is almost completely energy self-sufficient.

The manufacturer's goal is consistent reduction of energy consumption while maintaining the highest aluminum quality. The material meets strict international environmental standards, confirmed by independent certification covering the full emission lifecycle - from bauxite mining to the finished product.

The finished low-emission aluminum billets are then transported to Poland, where they undergo extrusion to form the crossbars for the OX PRO Roof Rack. The use of low-emission aluminum significantly reduces the carbon footprint of OX PRO Roof Racks. This raw material not only provides the properties required to create strong and durable system components, but thanks to its low-emission production process, it is also environmentally responsible.

Summary

In summary, the aluminum used in OX PRO Roof Rack crossbars is created through a combination of clean energy, precise manufacturing processes, and strict certification. The result is a high-quality material with minimal environmental impact - forming the foundation of durable, reliable, and environmentally conscious OX PRO Roof Rack Systems.
