The History of the MOLLE System – How This Revolution Began 

The 1990s – the birth of MOLLE 

The MOLLE system was developed in the 1990s as a successor to earlier load-carrying systems used by the U.S. military. Those older solutions lacked flexibility, were difficult to reorganize, and simply couldn’t keep up with the demands of modern military operations. The Army needed something lighter, more durable, and - above all - modular. 

MOLLE was officially introduced in 1997 and quickly became a standard across the U.S. Armed Forces. Over time, the system went through multiple improvements - from MOLLE I to MOLLE II and later generations - each bringing better materials, more ergonomic solutions, and increased durability. 

From the Military to the Civilian World 

As survival, bushcraft, and outdoor activities grew in popularity, the MOLLE system started to appear in civilian gear as well. It quickly became clear that what worked flawlessly in the military also performed exceptionally well in demanding outdoor conditions.
